Electro Technical Officers (ETO) – 4 Months

The four months Electro-Technical Officers ETO course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India). This ETO course is strictly residential. ETO Course commences Every alternative Month.

Admission Process

Entry Requirements
Option 1:
  • Passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as separate subjects.
  • Minimum 50% marks in English (in either Class 10th or 12th).
  • Completed a three-year Diploma in a relevant branch of engineering with at least 60% marks.

Option 2:

Passed a four-year Degree (including Lateral Entry) with a minimum of 50% marks in one of the following disciplines:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Electronics and Telecommunication / Communication Engineering
  • Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
  • Or any equivalent discipline recognized by AICTE, State, or Central Government.

Option 3:
  • Passed 10th Standard with English as a separate subject and minimum 50% marks in English.
  • Completed a three-year Diploma with 60% marks.
  • Completed a three-year Degree through Lateral Entry with 50% marks in any of the engineering streams mentioned above.
  • Both Diploma and Degree must be recognized by AICTE, State Government, or Central Government.

Age: Maximum 35 years of age at the time of course commencement

Panel Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in a personal panel interview conducted by our experienced selection team. The interview is designed to assess the candidate’s communication skills, technical knowledge, attitude, and suitability for a maritime career.

Medical Examination

Candidates who successfully clear the interview will be required to undergo a comprehensive medical examination by a DG Shipping–approved doctor to ensure they meet the medical and physical fitness standards required for sea service.

This examination can also be conducted by our in-house DG Shipping–approved medical officer for added convenience.

Pre-Sea Training

Though GP Ratings course covers aspects of engine crew training, separate engine crew training courses are also available. This course duration 6 months.

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) – 1 year

The one year Presea Training course for Graduates (GME) is a course leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency, awarded by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India), after six months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Naval ships anywhere in the world. This course is strictly residential.

Entry Requirements

Candidates applying for the 1-Year DG Shipping–Approved Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course must meet one of the following academic qualifications:

Category (a)

Full-time B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical-based Engineering Streams such as:

  • Mechanical and Automation
  • Mechanical and Electronics
  • Mechanical and Automobile

Category (b)

All Naval Architecture streams, such as:

  • Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding

Category (c)
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Marine Engineering

Category (d)
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
Additional Academic Conditions
  • The above B.E. / B.Tech or higher degree (such as a 5-year integrated M.E. / M.Tech) must be obtained from an AICTE-approved institute, IIT, or University Engineering College (a college directly run by a recognized university).
  • Candidates from Category (a) and (b) (combination streams) must pass Part ‘A’ subjects of both MEO Class-IV and MEO Class-II examinations.
  • They may be exempted from appearing in Mathematics and Applied Mechanics subjects.
  • Candidates from Category (c) and (d) are fully exempted from appearing in all Part ‘A’ subjects of both MEO Class-IV and MEO Class-II examinations.
  • The candidate’s college or university must have AICTE or UGC approval.

Age: Maximum 28 years of age at the time of course commencement

Panel Interview

Eligible candidates will be shortlisted and invited for an online interview followed by an online aptitude test to assess their suitability for the maritime profession.

Medical Examination

Candidates who qualify the interview and test must undergo a comprehensive medical examination by a DG Shipping–approved doctor.

For convenience, this examination can also be conducted by our in-house DG Shipping–approved medical officer.

Pre-Sea Training

Selected candidates will undergo a 1-Year DG Shipping–Approved Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) Pre-Sea Training Program.

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) - 1 year

The 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and affiliated with the Indian Maritime University (IMU).

This course serves as the first step toward a rewarding career as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy. Upon successful completion, cadets are awarded a Pre-Sea Completion Certificate and become eligible to join a ship as a Deck Cadet.

Course Structure

The pre-sea training consists of two semesters, each spanning six months. During this phase, cadets undergo rigorous academic and practical training in navigation, seamanship, marine safety, and ship operations.

After completing the pre-sea phase, cadets must undergo the Structured Shipboard Training Programme (SSTP) — an 18-month onboard training divided into three semesters (III, IV, and V), each approximately six months long.

During onboard training, cadets:

  • Gain hands-on experience in real ship operations.
  • Learn practical navigation, maintenance, and cargo handling.
  • Receive a stipend, along with free boarding and lodging.

Admission Process

Entry Requirements
10+2 (Science Stream)
  • Passed 10+2 (or equivalent) from a recognized Board/University with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as core subjects.
  • Secured a minimum of 70% marks in PCM and 65% aggregate overall.
  • Equivalent international qualifications such as GCE (UK) “A” Level or International Baccalaureate Diploma are also accepted.

B.Sc. (Science Stream)
  • Completed a B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Electronics, with Physics as an individual subject in at least one of the years.
  • Achieved a minimum of 65% marks in the final year from a recognized university
  • Must have passed 10+2 (PCM) from a recognized board with at least 65% marks in PCM.

B.E. / B.Tech. (Engineering Stream)
  • Completed a B.E. or B.Tech. degree with an average of 65% marks or above in the final year from an AICTE / UGC-recognized college or IIT.
  • Must have passed 10+2 (PCM) from a recognized board with at least 65% marks in PCM.

Age: Maximum 25 years of age on the date of course commencement.

Panel Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an admission interview as part of the selection process. The interview will evaluate the candidate’s aptitude, communication skills, and readiness for a maritime career.

Medical Examination

Selected candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical examination conducted by a DG Shipping–approved doctor to ensure they meet the fitness standards required for sea service.

For convenience, this can also be conducted by our in-house DG Shipping–approved medical officer.

IMU Common Entrance Test

Candidates must qualify the IMU-CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) for the respective batch.

General Purpose Rating (GP Rating) – 6 Months

The General Purpose Rating (GP Rating) course is a 6-month residential pre-sea training program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India).

This course prepares candidates for employment as Deck or Engine Crew on Indian and foreign merchant ships. Upon successful completion, candidates become epgible to join shipping companies in the capacity of Deck/Engine Crew.

With experience and additional training at sea, they can rise through the ranks to become Motorman, Oilman, Fitter, Deck Serang, Able-Bodied Seaman, and Bosun.

In due course, with further sea service, quapfications, and by clearing examinations conducted by the DG Shipping, candidates may progress to the Officer level.

The GP Rating course is strictly residential, providing a discippned and professional environment for maritime training.

Course Commencement: Every year in January and July.

Admission Process

Entry Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following educational qualifications:
  • Passed 10th Standard from a recognized educational board with Science and Mathematics as subjects.
  • Minimum 40% aggregate marks overall and 40% in English (in either 10th or 12th standard).
or
  • For candidates native to Minicoy Island (Scheduled Tribe, Union Territory of Lakshadweep), the minimum qualification requirement is relaxed to 8th Standard Pass.

Age Limit
  • Minimum: 17.5 years
  • Maximum: 25 years (for Diploma or Degree holders, the upper age limit is 27 years)
